You can become a citizen of Australia in different ways. You must meet the Department's criteria before you apply.

The general requirements for Australian Citizenship

You must have lived continuously and legally in Australia for the past 4 years
You must have not been absent for more than 12 months in the last 4 years
You must have been a permanent resident for the last 1 year and have not been absent for more than 90 days
You must be physically present in Australia at time of application
